Who we are:
Cairns Precision Dental Group began in 1994 and owes its success to the dedication of Dr Maurice Pietrobon and Dr Gary Taifalos who between them have transformed the practice into what it is today. Both graduated from The University of Queensland in Brisbane and have been committed to advancing their knowledge and offering the best dental service to their clients.
Cairns Precision Dental Group moved to its present location on Mulgrave Road, Woree in 2007. Well known Cairns identity Dr Bruce Kidd was also instrumental in the formulation of the practice and retired from the dental surgery in 2008.
Our dentists have a strong commitment to further education, attending courses and keeping up with the latest developments in dentistry and general health issues.
Dr. Maurice Pietrobon joined the practice in 1987 and provides all aspects of dental treatment with a focus on paediactric, family dentistry and implants. Maurice was born and raised in Ingham, completing his studies at the University of Queensland. Before returning to Cairns and joining the practice, he worked in the United Kingdom and with the Royal Flying Doctors Service.
Dr.Gary Taifalos joined the practice in 2002 and provides all aspects of dental treatment with a focus on endodontic techniques (root canal therapy, crown and bridgework, and implants). Gary is a local identity, having grown up in Innisfail and returning to Cairns to practice dentistry after completing his studies in Brisbane at the University of Queensland in 1993.
Dr. Michael Davidson graduated in 2000 from the University of Dundee, UK. In the past decade he has gained first class experience in private practice developing an interest in Aesthetic Dentistry; in particular teh use of tooth coloured filling materials and all-ceramic (metal-free) crown and bridge workto replave missing teeth. He is using his expertise in the use of the latest E4D milling machine to produce one visit crowns. Michael has also completed further education in the field of Dental Implants and sees this as the way forward in the treatment of missing teeth.
Caroline Pym joined the practice in 2006 and is dual qualified in Dental Therapy and Dental Hygiene. Her main emphasis is on working a career alongside children and she has a strong commitment and passion to the adage " Prevention is better than cure”.
Kim-Ahn Nguyen joined the practice in 2007 and is dual qualified in Dental Therapy and Dental Hygiene. She has had experience in private practice, school dental programs and the public hospital system.
Dr Jackie Davidson graduated with her Bachelor of Dental Surgery in 2001 from Glasgow in Scotland. Since then, she has worked in Fort William for 1 year, and in private practice in Glasgow for 7 years before coming to Cairns in August 2009 with her husband, Michael. Her special dental interest is cosmetic dentistry, including crowns, veneers, bridges, restoring implants, placement of white fillings and denture design and construction. She enjoys treating patients in a holistic manner, advising them on diet and lifestyle changes which may be of benefit to their dental and general health. In her spare time, Jackie enjoys the great outdoors, travel, sightseeing, photography and eating good food.Jackie is delighted to be working at Cairns Precision Dental and rates it as one of the best places she has worked.
Dr Andy Ratter is a very passionate, gentle dentist who enjoys providing a full range of dental treatments for the whole family. He believes there is nothing better than the patient’s own original teeth and is firmly committed to oral education and preventive care. He has a keen interest in endodontic therapy to preserve natural teeth where possible. Andy originally hailed from Edinburgh, Scotland before moving south to attend Liverpool University, where he obtained his Dental degree in 1990. Andy worked in general practice in Liverpool before moving to Australia in 1997. After practicing in Bunbury, WA for several years, Andy moved to Cairns in 2003 and worked in a family practice in the city centre. After taking a year off to travel Andy is now enjoying an exciting future working with the Cairns Precision Dental team.
